Yukon Provincial Nominee Program

The Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (YNP), a Provincial Nominee Program, is an initiative by the federal government of Yukon, supported by the government of Canada, to select immigrants who fit the labour gaps of their province. If you have a skill that matches the jobs they have available or the labour-market of Yukon, you have a chance to be nominated by this program and become a permanent resident of Canada. Not just you alone, even your common-law partner, spouse, children, family members, and other dependants can reap the same privilege. 

If you are working in Canada or if you have past work experience in Canada as a foreign worker, if you did work in Canada or the Canadian province of Yukon as a temporary resident and are now planning a Canadian immigration if you studied in Canada and now wish to live in Canada or apply for permanent residence, if you are moving to Canada and wish for a permanent residency in Canada in Yukon, we may have something to help you. 

The Yukon Provincial Nominee Program, a program supported by not only the Canadian Government but also the government of the Yukon Province itself. Your occupational experience, language test and IELTS test scores, qualifications, diploma, work experience as a temporary foreign worker, Canadian work permit, sponsorship, language proficiency etc. can play a major role in you immigrating to Canada and becoming a permanent resident of Canada and Yukon using the YNP program. Can you apply for YNP?

The YNP has 5 streams under it. To apply for citizenship and immigration to Canada and permanent residence in Yukon using these streams, you must qualify for at least one of them. This may be your chance to fulfil your dream of living in Canada and gaining Canadian citizenship. There are streams specifically designed for international students and foreign workers. The streams and their qualification criteria are discussed below.

Yukon Express Entry

This stream has three different pathways under it. The pathways and their eligibility criteria are discussed below. 

Yukon Express Entry Skilled Worker

  • You should have gained acceptance to the Express Entry pool. Your Express Entry profile should be valid and active online.
  • You should have enough settlement funds to support you as well as your family members who come with you for living in Canada.
  • You must have a valid occupation offer for a permanent full-time position from an eligible employer living in Yukon.
  • You must have the desire to settle in Canada and live in Yukon.
  • You must fulfill the qualifications of the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Yukon Express Entry Skilled Trades

  • You must fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Federal Skilled Trades Program. 
  • You also require an active and valid Express Entry profile.
  • You must have gained acceptance into the Express Entry pool.
  • You should have enough settlement funds to support you as well as your family members who come with you for living in Canada.
  • You must have an occupation offer from someone working in Yukon for a permanent full-time position. 
  • You must have a certificate to prove that you have the skills required for the skilled trade you wish to engage in while living in Yukon. 
  • This certificate should have been issued by a Provincial authority such as the Apprenticeship and Tradesperson Qualifications Authority. 
  • You must have the desire to live in Yukon. 

Yukon Express Entry Canada Experience Class

  • You must fulfill the qualification conditions of the Canadian Experience Class.
  • You require an active and valid Express Entry profile. 
  • You must have gained acceptance into the Express Entry pool.
  • You must have been offered the opportunity to work for an eligible employer for a permanent full-time position.
  • You must have the desire to live and settle in Yukon.

Yukon’s Skilled Worker Category

Yukon Provincial Nominee Program
If you wish to immigrate to the Yukon Provincial Nominee Program and get a permanent residency as well as citizenship of Canada

Listed below are the eligibility criteria you must fulfill to apply for Canadian permanent residency through this stream.

  • A job offer from a Yukon employer for a full-time permanent position is a must.
  • The job must require you to have management skills, technical skills, professional skills or experience in trading.
  • You must have the educational credentials and job experience that are necessary for you to perform your job duties.
  • You must prove your language proficiency through a language test such as IELTS or CELPIP.
  • If you are applying while staying in Canada, you must be legally present in Canada. 
  • If you are in Canada as a full-time student, you must have a valid student visa. You will also have to give proof that you have completed one year of study in Canada as well as that you are enrolled in a diploma study program.
  • You do not qualify for this program if you are a refugee claimant.

Yukon’s Critical Impact Worker Category

This stream is for you if you are a foreign national who can work in lower-skilled occupations and fill the labour gaps in the labour market. You must fulfill the following conditions.

  • You must have a job offer for a full-time permanent position in an occupation with skill level C or D.
  • You must have the educational credentials and job experience required to carry out your job duties in Canada.
  • You must have worked for at least 6 months in the job you wish to pursue while living in Canada.
  • Proving language ability through a language test in French or English is a must. The test must be from an authorized testing organization such as IELTS or CELPIP.
  • You must have a legal status in Canada if you are submitting your application while living in Canada.
  • If you are in Canada as a full-time student, you must have a valid student visa. You will also have to give proof that you have completed one year of study in Canada as well as that you are enrolled in a diploma study program.
  • You do not qualify for this program if you are a refugee claimant.

Yukon Business Immigration Program

Yukon Provincial Nominee Program
If you wish to immigrate to the Yukon Provincial Nominee Program and get a permanent residency as well as citizenship of Canada

If you can start a business in Yukon or run a business with a business partner in the province of Yukon, then this stream is for you. You can apply for permanent resident status through this program but the Government of Yukon will not invest in your business through this stream. 

You will be required to provide proof that you have invested in your business. Your business can sell goods, services, or both. For details, you must contact your immigration consultant or an immigration law firm. To qualify for this stream, you must fulfill the following criteria.

  • You must have worked for at least five years as a senior manager. You can also have direct experience as an entrepreneur in a business that is similar to the business you wish to own or partner in Canada. 
  • You will have to submit a resume or CV along with your financial statements and letter of recommendations you may have received. You must also submit supporting documents of your work experience.
  • Any work experience may not qualify as the skilled work experience required for you to run your business in Canada.
  • Your personal net worth must be a minimum of $250,000 CAD. You must also have liquid assets such as deposits.
  • You must have visited Yukon in the past or prove that you have an understanding of the market and business in Yukon as well as the social environment of the province.
  • During your previous visit, you must have met with an officer of the Nominee Program.
  • Proving language ability through a language test in French or English is a must.  The test must be from an authorized testing organization such as IELTS or CELPIP.
  • You must also have the ability and desire to be involved in managing and operating the day-to-day work of your business.
  • You must own 33.3% of the equity of your corporation. 
  • If your business is involved in manufacturing, mining or mineral development, tourism products, energy, agriculture, any of the cultural industries, in film and video production, information technology, processing to add value, forestry, attractions or services and facilities, you will be given priority.
  • Your business is not eligible for application under this program if it is related to business and personal services, professional practices, renting of real estate, passive investments, retail, wholesale operations and distribution operations, restaurants and financial services.

The Yukon Community Pilot 

This stream was introduced in 2020 and is planned to accept applications for 3 years. Through this program, you can receive an open work permit that will remain valid for 2 years and will be location restricted. You must have a nomination for permanent residency in Yukon that is valid.

The work visa gained through this stream will allow you to work in Canada for at most 3 different employers in Yukon participating communities. This visa will be valid for 2 years and does not need a Labor Market Impact Assessment. Participating communities are Carmacks, Whitehorse, Dawson City, Haines Junction, Watson Lake and Carcross.  

You must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for this work permit. 

  • You must have job offers from 2 or 3 different employers in Yukon. 
  • You will require a photocopy of the letter of support signed with the Government of Yukon.
  • You must meet the eligibility criteria required for a work permit in Canada.
  • The jobs offered to you must be in the same Yukon participating community. 
  • You must work in a full-time position in these jobs. 
  • The work must be for a non-seasonal job opportunity. You must have work as well as regular income for the whole year.
  • The income offered to you must be equal to the median wage for that job or more.
  • You must have the educational qualifications as well as the work experience required for you to carry out the duties of your job.

Here are some of the supporting documents you will require while applying for this program.

  • You must have a photocopy of your nomination letter from the Provincial Government of Yukon. It must confirm that you are nominated for permanent residency in Yukon.
  • You must also have the Government’s letter of support.
  • The letter of support must mention that the employers need you to begin working as soon as possible.
  • The job offers must be genuine and valid.
  • The letter of support must also mention the name of the employers, their occupations, the number of hours you will be required to work in a week as well as the location of your employment.

Apart from Yukon, the other provinces such as British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island, and Ontario, all have their own provincial nominee programs. If Yukon isn’t the province for you, you can check the eligibility criteria of the streams of programs of all these provinces. The province of Quebec has a different program to nominate applicants for Canadian citizenship and a resident visa or Canadian permanent residence.
