Eligibility requirements for sponsors
In order for your loved one to receive a Canadian permanent residency status. You have to meet the following eligibility requirements:- Your age must be 18 or above
- You are Canadian by nationality, a permanent residence, or even registered as an Indian in the Canadian Indian Act. If you are a citizen of Canada and are currently residing overseas, you must mention to the IRCC that you intend to live in Canada with your partner upon receiving a permanent residency status. You must also take into account are at the time of applying for a PR status, the sponsor is living in Canada while submitting their sponsorship application form.
- It is important that you are not receiving any kind of assistance socially unless you have a disability.
- You have to prove that you will be able to carry the financial requirements of you and your spouse during your stay in Canada.
Who you can sponsor
The person who will be sponsored must be above the age of 18 years and must be eligible in any one of the following categories:- Common-law partner: This means that you and your partner are not married but been living together for over a year.
- Spouse: You and your partner have been legally married to each other.
- Conjugal partner: This means that you and your partner have not been married due to religious constraints, but have been living together for more than one year and lives outside Canada. To simplify, this happens in interfaith marriages which is not allowed in some countries.
