Almost all the provinces of Canada struggle to overcome the problem of labor shortages. The declining birth rate and a rising elderly population are the major causes that hinder the growth of the population. This dearth of skilled workers can only be met by an inbound Immigration.
Canada’s efforts to attract newcomers have turned out to be fruitful with the indication of increased population growth in the Statistics.
As per the data gave by Statistics Canada, the population of Canada has recorded immigration growth in the third quarter of 2019.
The survey was conducted in October, in which the total population of Canada was estimated at 37,797,496. It was an increase of as high as 208,234 compared to the previous quarter.
For the first time, the population of Canada has significantly increased in a single quarter. An unprecedented increase of quarterly population by 0.6 percent is the largest growth Statistics Canada has recorded, since the implementation of the current demographic accounting system in July 1971.
The soaring growth of the population is majorly due to the increased number of immigrants as well as non-permanent residents.
Roughly 103,751 new immigrants and 82,438 non-permanent residents are welcomed by Canada during the third quarter. Permanent residents and temporary workers registered 83.4 percent of the total Canadian population growth. British Columbia has accomplished the highest growth rate, at an increase of 0.7 percent, among all the provinces. The province’s population is estimated at roughly 5.1 million now. Newfoundland and Labrador have the lowest population growth with an increase of only 0.1 percent.
